UP to the hills - No Lava here but it's a Crater.

Writer's picture: Coronado SunriseCoronado Sunrise

Yes, you read that title correctly, we went up to El Valle and yes, the town was settled in the crater of a Volcano!

El Valle is a beautiful town located in the province of Cocle in the District of Anton. Nobody really know when it was founded but Everybody in the country know about the existence of this beautiful town. El Valle is located 2 hrs. 30 min driving from Panama City and if you are going up from Coronado it is only 45 min to 1hour drive.

Temperature is just great, 28 Celsius on average during the day and the lowest at night is around the 18 Celsius. "The eternal spring" once you are there you will notice how green and lush is the entire year around, and if you have been in the beach area during dry season you will definitely notice the difference.

To give you a little brief about the town, nobody knows exactly who was the first to live up here, or when the town was founded, but they have a hint and it's around the 1910's.

Great views, everywhere you look. Rivers, waterfalls, mountains, trees, forest and more, and more and more lol.

we had the chance to go to Cerro la cruz, which is good 10 min driving from the center of the town and this is the view from there:

* next time I will take a better picture I promise.

To be such small town, in the actual town for the last census there were around 10K people living in the town.

and there is big list of great restaurants, and interesting things to do and see, and here is a little list:

  • Waterfalls: Chorro el Macho, Chorro las Moza

  • Hiking: India Dormida, Cerro Gaital

  • Bird Watching

  • Horse riding

  • Hot springs

  • visit to the museum

  • and you MUST visit the market.

Lucky us is not the first time we go, so here is a few pictures about our previous visit to this beautiful town, which is great to come for the day (the drive is not bad at all) or to spend the weekend. And if you love nature, I have good news usually some good places become available for rent and you could be in this fantastic and very welcoming town every day.

We'll keep exploring and writting a little, see you then!
